What Causes Hair Loss - How and Why Does Your Hair Fall Out?
What are female hair loss causes that women should know about? Nowadays, it...
What causes hair loss? It's actually a natural process and most of us will eventually lose at least some of our hair. It doesn't mean that you are ageing prematurely. In this article, I'll show you why men lose their hair and briefly tell you the options you have if you want to do something about it.
Life Cycle Of A Hair
To understand hair loss, you need to briefly understand the life cycle of a hair.
Each hair actually goes through a long growth phase that lasts around 6 years. At any one time about 90% of your hairs are in this state.
At the end of this stage, the hair falls out and a new one grows in its place.
In men who are losing hair, each hair becomes thinner and thinner as the hair follicle is starved. Eventually, the hair falls out and the follicle does not create any more new hairs.
DHT
Men produce testosterone and the body converts it into other more useful chemicals to carry out various functions in the body. One of these chemicals is DHT.
Unfortunately, DHT has a side effect when it is carried to the hair follicles via the bloodstream. DHT inhibits the hair follicle and it becomes malnutritioned over time. Eventually the follicle is so malnutritioned that it no longer produces hair anymore.
Treatments
Many men turn to drugs. There are currently two drugs that have FDA approval for treating hair loss. One is Finasteride and the other is Minoxidil. Unfortunately, both of them have side effects.
Some men even opt for surgery. This usually costs well over $10,000 but the latest techniques can give excellent and permanent results.
Others opt for natural treatments. These work just as well as drugs and cost a fraction of the price.
